Dwarf Hollyhock Mixed
I first started growing Hollyhocks soon after meeting my wife. Her mother grows huge specimens in her front garden – some stretching as tall as 12 foot high.
I was impressed with the way in which they continually flower for pretty much the entire summer, with the flowers slowing blooming up their long and ever-stretching stems.
Hollyhocks are herbaceous perennials. This means that that died down to ground level in the winter, only to emerge again with new fresh growth in the spring. They were once the favourite of the cottage garden and no postcard card view of such a scene would be complete without a hollyhock dwarfing other flowering plants.
Dwarf Celebrities Mixed
Some people are put off by the height of the hollyhock and feel that there is no suitable place in a border arrangement for such a giant. Dwarf hollyhocks are a perfect solution for the smaller garden. The Althaea rosea annua Spring ‘Celebrities Mixed’ provides unique, bushy, dwarf plants that yield stout stems which become clothed in beautiful, frilly, anemone-centred blooms in a surprising array of colours. Growing up to only 28 inches high, they can be planted in containers and will make an elegant addition to any patio or border. They are also very easy to grow from seed and to manage.
You can buy Althaea rosea annua Spring ‘Celebrities Mixed’ from Thompson & Morgan for only £2.99 for 20 seeds.
