Goji Berries

The Super Food

The Goji Berry (of the solanaceous family) has made quite a splash in the news of late, being described as a ‘Super Food‘. They are rich in Vitamin C and over many centuries have gained a legendary status. For more than 2000 years, the Himalayan people have prized this fruit and noted its many nutritional virtues. Some would describe this sweet, tasty, plum tomato-like berry as the Far East’s best kept secret.

Now the great news is that you don’t have to grow them in a heated greenhouse. They are hardy enough to cope with the riggers of the Himalayan winter, I’m sure they will do okay in your garden. They can survive temperatures as low as -15c, can grow up to 6 foot high and are quite drought resistant.

I recently bought a small Goji Berry plant. I am amazed at how fast it is growing and I’m looking forward to trying its first fruits.

If you are considering buying a Goji Berry plant for your garden, then do make sure that it is from a trusted supplier as there have recently been issues raised regarding low level risks of spreading plant-infections.

Thompson and Morgan offer safe and well source Goji Berry Plants for as little as £9.49 each.
