The Hibiscus can add a dash of the tropics to the canvas of any garden. For years, I have nurtured there delicate blooms in my own garden. The hardy variety Hibiscus syriacus has always been a favourite shrub of mine. With no need to bring it in the winter, it is fairly trouble free.
I have also grown many tender varieties such as Hibiscus Northern Lights, which are prized for their very large and colourful flowers. I tend to keep such specimens in pots and over-winter them in conservatory.
A new variety has just come on to the market that promises the best of both worlds; the hardiness of Syriacus and the gigantic blooms of Northern Lights. Hibiscus Collection is a first for any collector or passing admirer. The pink and silky flowers of this variety can grow up to 12 inches in diameter and makes for a fast growing and fully hardy perennial – you will be able to keep it in the garden over winter! It will happily flower from late summer until the first frosts.
I think that over the coming years, this is going to become a real favourite in the Great British garden!
You can buy Hibiscus Collection from Thompson and Morgan.
