Bamboo is not just for supporting your runner beans! A refreshing splash of green can be added to any garden with these robust a calming plants.
Bamboo is a woody (mostly non-deciduous) perennial that belongs to the grass family: Poaceae. The Chinese regard this plant as a symbol of long life due to it’s sturdy and evergreen habit.
You can add bamboo to border or large pots to add a little architectural interest. Not only will they look great, but the wind blowing through the leaves will add a calming whisper to any garden.
There are many species of bamboo plant to try. Some growing many metres tall in the UK and other, only a matter of inches.

Phyllostachys Aureocaulis or “Gold Bamboo” is a common favourite, with golden stems that can grow up to 2 metres in height.
Or you could try the unusual “Oriental Black Bamboo”, (Phyllostachys Nigra) to add a little architectural interest to your garden.
