Plants to try this winter

Hanging Basket Advice

  • Use a good multipurpose compost. Ericaceous if using Culluna Heathers.
  • Pack your plants closer together than you would normally as plants grow slower during the winter months.
  • Ensure that the winter hanging basket is well drained – Don’t water during cold damp weather to prevent the roots freezing
  • Line the insides of your winter hanging baskets with news paper or garden fleece to protect roots from frost damage.
  • During exceptionally cold, wet or windy weather, it might be a good idea to keep your winter hanging baskets under shelter.
  • Dead head flowering plants such as pansies, violas and cyclamen to encourage more flower production.
