Bacopa - Begonia

This time of year, on a visit to the local garden centre, you’ll find plenty of colourful plug plants for your summer-time hanging basket display. With such a wide range of plants to choose from, the question is ‘which flower combinations work well together?’

Here are a few planting suggestions that I have had the best results with or have seen hanging in other displays.

Peaches & Ice Cream

A basket full of Bacopa ‘Snowtopia White’, topped with a crown of Begonia ‘Apricot Shades’. Last year, this was my most successful hanging basket. Very beautiful and so simple.

Ivy Geranium - Fuchsia

Icebergs in Summer

Ivy Geranium ‘Blanche Roche’ with Fuchsia ‘Cecile’ mixed in any combination or quantity can work very well together.

Sedum - Delosperma

Succulent Success

Delosperma floribunda ‘Stardust’ with Sedum ussuriense ‘Turkish Delight’. A highly original mix, but very draught tolerant and essentially perennial. Use a soil based compost in your hanging basket and mulch with grit.
