Highly scented sweet peas
Who doesn’t love sweet peas? Not only are popular in any flower garden, but also on the allotment for growing as cut flowers. Although strictly non-edible, they belong to the pea and bean family (Legumes). There are thousands of varieties, mostly annual and range from highly scented to not at all. I tend to opt for the scented varieties of sweet pea as I really can’t resist the intoxicating perfume that they produce.
If it’s a heady scent that you are after, try Lathyrus odoratus Fragrantissima. As the name suggests, there is more to this sweet pea than just the showy flowers. It’s still not to late to sow them from seed.

Gardening Which? recently found it to be the most fragrant variety for the garden as well. Large flowered, strong stemmed and wonderful cut flowers. Can be enjoyed over several months in the house and garden.
