Buddleja x weyeriana ‘Bicolor’
If you want to attract nectar feeding insects to your garden this summer, then generate a real buzz with the humble Butterfly Bush – the Buddleja (also spelt ‘Buddleia’ or ‘Buddlea’). The Buddleja belongs to a family of about 100 species of shrubs and trees from South and North America – figwort family (Scrophulariaceae). They were brought to the Europe by the English Reverend and botanist Adam Buddle during the 17th century.
When somebody asks me what colour a Buddleja flower is, I usually say ‘purple, blue, white or yellow’ – but how about this; the Buddleja ‘Flower Power’ is multicoloured! Changing from blue through to orange, a real sunset of amasing shades!
Buddlejas are easy to grow and this particular variety will stretch up to 2 metres high and will flower from July-September.
They produce a sweet scent from their banana-shaped blooms – a favourite for butterflies. Buddlejas prefer a well drained and loamy soil with plenty of sunshine.
Thompson & Morgan stock Buddleja – Flower Power.
