Now, I know that hanging baskets aren’t everyone’s cup-of-tea these days, but I still have a great affection for them. I like to use every scrap of my garden and that includes the walls around my house.
You may or may not have noticed my little obsession with Nasturtiums; I have written countless articles on these extremely rewarding hardy annuals in there various forms. Now a new variety has caught my attention and it will definitely be on my shopping list this spring.
Nasturtium majus ‘Orange Troika’
Here’s what Thompson and Morgan have to say about this new variety…
“Strong compact, vigorous trailing plants with decorative marbled foliage and vibrant orange flowers. Continues to produce blooms all over the foliage throughout the summer. Stunning planted in baskets or containers or used as a spreading groundcover plant. Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers”.
Nasturtiums are so easy to grow and provide plenty of leaf and flower in no time at all. Don’t forget – they are edible; the peppery leaves are great in a salad sandwich and you can use the sweet tasting flowers to decorate any dish. I have also heard that some people like to pickle the nut-like seeds and use them as capers.
